Australia vs South Africa 2022 LIVE cricket scores: First Test
The last 18 months, two years has been a lot more consistent and probably some of the best Test cricket I’ve played. Hopefully that can continue. Just enjoying it. It is a great group to be part of. Maybe not always in two days but when you win Test matches, it is great to enjoy successes. Q: This bowling unit is functioning so well at the moment, why do you think that is? You are all contributing such great depth. A: Bowling captain! I can’t say it, can I? Q: You just did. A: I did anyway. ‘Bolo’ (Scott Boland) has been unbelievable but the other four of us, Josh (Hazlewood) is unfortunately coming back from injury, but we’ve all grown up together.
Q: Only the second time in Australia a Test has finished on day two. Do you think it had more to do with the pitch or the quality of both bowling attacks? A: It is always both. I have always said I like games that are a contest between bat and ball and the best players stand up. Travis Head to get 90-odd on that wicket against a world-class bowling attack, it is pretty special. Just great to be part of. Q: We know how much you love Travis Head. Do you think his first-innings knock was the difference in this match? A: Definitely.
In all, a staggering 36 wickets fell for just 504 runs at an average of only 14. 00. But, to the winners go the spoils, and Australia will be more than happy to emerge from ‘the green monster’ in Brisbane with a six-wicket win and a 1-0 lead in the series. Head was the man of the match thanks to his first-innings 92, but Cummins wasn’t too far behind after taking 5-42 in the second innings, and finishing with match figures of 7-77. After both countries enjoy a much longer-than-expected break, the series will then head to Melbourne next week for the traditional Boxing Day Test at the MCG. Thanks for following our coverage today, and be sure to tune in again for the second Test.
Scott Boland, Josh Hazlewood could be back, Scott Boland the people’s champion, what do you think of his impact? A: Bowled beautifully again. Hits a great length, challenges your defence all the time. Selectors have a headache, don’t they, ahead of Melbourne? 6. 02pm on Dec 18, 2022Two-day Test doesn’t surprise LyonNathan Lyon spoke to Channel Seven after the game... Q: Reflecting on Mitch Starc’s 300th Test wicket, how special was that moment? A: Yeah, I’ve always said I love playing cricket because I want to see my mates do really well. I won’t tell you what he told me when we walked out after lunch but special to see him achieve what he has done in cricket in all three formats.

Q: 300th test wicket. How special was that moment earlier today? Your teammates got right around you. A: Pretty cool. ‘Heady’ (Travis Head) was the first one to say, “That was a better result at 300 than the one he dropped. ” Very cool. Very privileged. I’m sure I will reflect on it later but it’s nice. Q: Can you think of a more appropriate way to bring up the milestone than your signature delivery? A: It was nice.
We enjoy each other’s company on and off the field. We complement each other really well, know how to get the best out of each other. Scotty has come into that beautifully. ‘Nes’ (Michael Neser) waiting in the wings... 49pm on Dec 18, 2022Australia winWhat an anti-climax. Nortje bowls another five wides, handing the Aussies the winning runs. The hosts finish on 4-35, winning this match by six wickets. What a remarkable match - 36 wickets in under two days. It felt like I could get him (van der Dussen) that way and pulled it off, I guess. Definitely take it and enjoy it, one to reflect on when it is done and dusted. Q: Is it where prioritising Test cricket for Australia and the sacrifices pays off? A: I guess so. I know I prioritised it. I don’t look at it as a sacrifice or anything like that. I have thoroughly enjoyed my April and May spending time with (wife) Alyssa at home and away from cricket.

He is man of the match for me. You look at the scorecard, that sums it up. 5. 59pm on Dec 18, 2022‘Pretty cool’: Starc reflects on big milestoneMitchell Starc spoke to Channel Seven after the game... Q: Mitch, two-day test. Felt like a whirlwind as a viewer, how about as a player? A: Not sure we’ve had a two-day Test before. None of us can recall a two-day Test. Very interesting, let’s leave it at that.
Sure is. What about the South African pace attack? What impressed you? A: They’re all quality bowlers. I haven’t seen much of (Marco) Jansen, I faced him in the first innings, he was a good bowler. (Kagiso) Rabada has done it for years and (Anrich) Nortje has got really good pace and bowled well. Good attack. Hopefully another good Test match in Melbourne. Q: What a great position for the Aussies to be in because you have so much depth with the bowlers.
